Element: Prepare to install the carpet
Interpret carpet installation requirements from job and manufacturer instructions and calculate the quantities of materials required
Identify hazards relating to the work site, work practices, materials, tools and equipment, and check risk treatments are in place and operating
Select and check all required tools and equipment are ready to use, and organise to fix any deficiencies according to workplace procedures
Gather the carpet and other materials required by job instructions, and check they meet quality requirements and are prepared and ready to install according to manufacturer instructions
Confirm the stairs are clean and suitable for installing the carpet, and fix or report any deficiencies according to workplace procedures
Element: Install the underlay and grippers
Measure, mark and cut the underlay and gripper strips to length and size to minimise waste
Fasten the underlay and gripper strips according to manufacturer instructions
Fit gripping edging trims at thresholds and abutments to other flooring surfaces according to workplace procedures
Trim off excess and finish installing underlay and gripper strips to meet quality requirements
Check the underlay and gripper strips are installed correctly according to job instructions and quality requirements, and fix any deficiencies
Determine the set out and laying direction of the carpet according to job instructions to minimise waste and joins, consider the direction of the pile, and ensure an efficient, quality installation
Establish the skirting point and seam placements for the carpet
Lay out carpet pieces and check them for size, direction of pile and match
Measure, mark, cut, seal and join the carpet pieces according to workplace procedures
Position, stretch and fasten the carpet according to the manufacturer instructions
Trim off excess carpet, install finishing strips and finish installing the carpet according to job instructions
Check the carpet is installed correctly according to job instructions and quality requirements, and fix any deficiencies
Element: Complete the task according to workplace procedures
Clean up the work area, identify items for recycling and dispose of waste
Identify, tag and report any damage to equipment and tools
Check, clean and do routine maintenance on equipment and tools and store them and unused materials
